OUR MISSION

Make the kind of game we want to play!

Hi! Alan here. I figure that if my own group likes this game, there’s a good chance that you will too! I’ve spent years tinkering and poking at the ruleset used at my own table, and now I want to share that with you.

Honestly, I never set out to make a commercial product. I just wanted to put together the best thing I could for my own weird hobby itch, and it turned out to be more popular than I had anticipated. It was a lot of fun working with the various artists I got in contact with, as well as hammering out a few of my own pieces. Before I knew it, people were asking to buy the game, and it struck me that I just might have a product on my hands!

I can be a little dense sometimes.

SO WHO ARE WE?

The Chronicles of Ember / Ember Studio is a small, one-man operation based out of Paragould, Arkansas in the United States. My home address is heavily redacted. I’m a husband, a father, an embattled homeowner, a dog enthusiast, a Jeep enthusiast, a retro video-gaming enthusiast, and my many cats love me. I don’t know why any of these things are true, but man, life is good!

As far as gaming goes, I’ve been into tabletop pen-and-paper gaming since 1989 when AD&D 2nd Edition was the latest and greatest thing on the market. The game captured my imagination like nothing else before it, and before long, I was running games of my own. However, there were always little things in the rules that I never really liked. Small quibbles began to pile up, and further editions and revisions never addressed to my satisfaction. Game systems came and went, with a few more iterations of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, some White Wolf things, and an edition of GURPS in there somewhere. I had fun with all of them, but the same old problems remained – I couldn’t find a perfect fit. It was during my first year of college that I finally decided it was time to start putting words on paper to codify the way I wanted to do things, and the rest is history.

While multiple artists have collaborated with me in the final push to get a product out the door, putting all this together has been a labor of love, and I hope that it shows. As I mentioned above, this is the ruleset that I actually use every weekend with my own gaming group! Seriously! And we love it!
